journal prompts for gratitude

Journal prompts for gratitude are questions that point your attention at something specific that went right, so thankfulness becomes a detail instead of a vague feeling. The more concrete the prompt, the better it works. Pick one, name the actual thing, person, or moment, and write a few lines about why it mattered today.

“What are you grateful for?” gets stale fast. These prompts ask about smaller, stranger, and sometimes harder things, which keeps the habit honest.

how to use these

  • Pick one prompt. Not the best one, just the one that catches.
  • Write for five minutes. Set a timer if it helps, and stop when it rings.
  • One line is a fine answer. Some days that is the whole entry.
  • Don’t edit while you write. Nobody grades this.
  • If a prompt doesn’t fit, skip it. Come back in a month and it might.
  • Try not to repeat yesterday’s answer. Hunting for a new one is the useful part.
