Journal prompts

journal prompts, one good question at a time

Journal prompts are questions that give you something specific to write about, so you’re not staring at a blank page. Pick one that catches your attention, write for about five minutes, and stop. A single honest line counts. Over weeks, your answers start to show patterns you wouldn’t notice otherwise.

Below are 360 original prompts across 12 topics. They’re written the way Cloudy asks questions in Everblue: short, specific, and a little unexpected.

how to use journal prompts

  • Pick one prompt. Not the best one, just the one that catches.
  • Write for five minutes. Set a timer if it helps, and stop when it rings.
  • One line is a fine answer. Some days that is the whole entry.
  • Don’t edit while you write. Nobody grades this.
  • If a prompt doesn’t fit, skip it. Come back in a month and it might.
  • Match the prompt to the time of day. Mornings want short and forward-looking; evenings want looking back.
